The motorized or electric wheelchair
A motorized wheelchair is a form of personal transportation that typically has six wheels and is steered using a "joystick" type control mechanism. Other names for the motorized wheelchair are electric wheelchair, power wheelchair and power chair. For understandable reasons, the term "electric chair" is rarely used (wide grin)! A motorized wheelchair is usually equipped with outstanding manoeuvrability features that make them perfect for use in the home, where they will generally fit just about anywhere. Motorized wheelchairs are typically for in-door use.

Not only are they useful for the permanently immobilized, but also for people with temporary injuries (like a broken leg) or short-term immobility. 1. Your wheelchair must be comfortable and suit your personal needs. Not all electric wheelchairs are created equal, so you should try out several.
2. Watch the price! Pay attention to what's included in standard options, and if applicable check with your insurance company.
3. Do you need a wheelchair for both indoor and outdoor use? Most are designed for indoor use only, so make your wishes very clear!
4. Fairly often electric wheelchairs are portable. Check if this doesn't comprimize its strength and life expectancy.
The mobility provided by electric wheelchairs has made a dramatic difference in many people's lives. The development of new technology in the industry has made it possible for people to obtain smaller, more lightweight and manoeuvrable motorized wheelchairs for use inside the home, allowing people to move about in small places and complete their activities of daily living without (much) help.
