Three wheel mobility scooters: the maneouvrable ones!

 

As an experienced user I have transported myself on both three wheel scooters and their four wheeled brethren. Generally speaking, I prefer the 3-wheel mobility scooters. They tend to be more maneouvrable because of their single front wheel, and also they often steer lighter on account of their simpler steering transmissions and connections.

Originally most mobility scooters had four wheels. For quite a while they were (and quite rightly still are) considered to be very useful and helpful, and many people appreciated the efficiency and convenience they offered. However, as technology advanced, users began to start expecting more of all their technologically backed items, including mobility scooters.

Not surprisingly, the three wheel mobility scooter entered the stage, designed to look more streamlined and aerodynamic. Not that aerodynamics play much of a role at the travel speeds of a mobility scooter, but the rounded edges surelook good and their sturdy designs help to make 3 wheel mobility scooters popular. Yet this is not the main advantage of these types of scooters. Rather, it is the range of things a 3 wheel mobility scooter can be made to do.

Not limited to irritating three point turns, the single front wheel of the three wheel mobility scooter allows its driver to move through curves and bends in a much more fluid and elegant way. No more need for the hacksaw action of going forward, then back, and then forward again in order to complete a sharp turn, a quality that should not be underestimated. It gives the user of a 3 wheel mobility scooter additional mobility and hence independency.
